Being a volunteer in a school is an important task. St Brigid’s would not be able to function as well as we do without the contribution made by the myriad of volunteers who so generously give of their time and expertise.

Unfortunately, history has shown us that some adults put themselves in situations where they can use their positions of trust and power to harm children. This history has resulted in legislation in NSW which aims to protect children from abuse. The legislation that applies specifically to volunteers includes Commission for Children and Young People Act 1998 and NSW Ombudsman Act 1974.

All volunteers working in the school are required to complete a Working With Children Clearance (WWCC) and be registered with Maitland-Newcastle Catholic Diocese.
